Checklist
3. Add yourself as a Participant in your Crossbar account.
4. Add your USA Hockey Membership Number to your Participant in Crossbar. Do this by going to Account > Participants, then clicking on your own participant. In the Associations section, click +Add and choose USA Hockey in the Association dropdown. Enter your USA Hockey Membership Number and click Add Association.
6. Complete Background Check. This needs to be completed every 2 years. This is necessary to pass a criminal background check conducted by the club as required by USA Hockey.
7. Complete Safesport Training. This must be completed every year. Refresher courses are available if your current training has not yet expired.
8. Complete Age-Specific Modules for the level you wish to coach before hitting the ice: 6U, 8U, Squirt (10U), Peewee (12U), Bantam (14U).
9. Complete USA Hockey Coaching Clinic on or before December 31 of the current season. The following is a summary of the USA Hockey Coaching Certification Level requirements:
- 6U/8U – All coaches must enter USA Hockey's Coaching Education Program at the 6U/8U clinic if coaching LTS/6U/8U. You may remain at this level for 5 consecutive years if you continue coaching at LTS/6U/8U. If you will be coaching above the 8U level, even if this is your first year, you must complete the Level 1 clinic instead of 6U/8U.
- Level 1 – Required if you will be coaching at any level above 8U. This certification level expires after 1 year and you must progress to Level 2 the following year.
- Level 2 – Required after you have coached one year at Level 1. This certification level expires after 1 year and you must progress to Level 3 the following year.
- Level 3 – Required after you have coached one year at Level 2. This certification level expires after 1 one year and you must progress to Level 4 the following year.
- Level 4 – Required after you have coached one year at Level 3. This certification level expires after 3 years. Certification will be automatically renewed if you have accumulated 5 hours of USA Hockey continuing education credits before the time of expiration.
- Level 5 – This is the highest certification level of coaching. This certification level expires after 4 years. Certification will be automatically renewed if you have accumulated 5 hours of USA Hockey continuing education credits before the time of expiration.
*Note: A coach may attend only one certification clinic per year. This does not include continuing education clinics or modules. The 6U/8U clinic can be taken by coaches that are Level 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 for continuing education credit.
Note: To see what you need completed, please login to the USA Hockey Learning Center and click on the Coaches tab. Things in red are in need of attention.
Registration for coaching clinics are simple AND ARE REIMBURSED BY THE ASSOCIATION (sorry, only the clinic is reimbursed, NOT mileage, meals, etc.,).
